    Kenojuak Remembered at the Innuit Gallery


    In this their 30th year, The Innuit Gallery, London, is preparing a unique collection of Kenojuak Ashevak’s wonderful and dynamic works. Selected images have been loaned to our gallery, for all who have admired and those who will be introduced to Kenojuak’s magical printmaking to enjoy.  These images, created during the past 50 years and printed for the annual Cape Dorset print shows will be displayed. Please join us at the Innuit Gallery for a special tribute to Kenojuak Ashevak, Canada’s legendary Inuit artist.

    The opening will include an outstanding guest speaker and expert in Inuit art in its many forms. Toronto’s Leslie Boyd Ryan, was a leader at Dorset Fine Arts in Toronto, and brings 30 years experience and stories of her innumerable visits to Cape Dorset’s printmaking studios.  

    In addition, The Innuit Gallery has acquired the exclusive rights to the dramatic etching and aquatint by Kenojuak, titled “Colourful Spirit”.  This unique limited edition print (25) was produced in 1982, and will be released at our gala opening of “Kenojuak Remembered” on May 23rd.

    In the same year, 1982, Kenojuak was promoted to ‘Companion of the Order of Canada,’ recognizing her outstanding achievements and lifetime contributions which brought honour to Canada. The Innuit Gallery looks forward to sharing this evening of memories of an amazing artist whose drawings, stone sculpture, passionate creativity and trademark of superb printmaking have inspired artists, collectors and art lovers worldwide.
