Vacant Unit Rebate and vacant/excess land subclass tax reductions

Council at their April 4th meeting resolved to phase out the vacant unit rebate and vacant/excess land subclass tax reductions either immediately beginning with the calendar year 2018, or over a two year period beginning in the year 2018 with complete elimination before the 2020 calendar year.

Council also resolved that Administration’s report be sent to the boards of management of Business Improvement Areas along with the Chamber of Commerce and the London Economic Development Corporation to obtain comments on behalf of their members/clients.

The City is also making contact by letter to all recipients of the rebate to inform them of the process being undertaken.

The City is requesting that comments be returned to them no later than August 31, 2017.

To facilitate the collection and reporting of comments from the affected members of the London Downtown Business Association we will be hosting a drop in session as follows:

Tuesday June 13, 2017 from 2PM – 3:30PM at The Arts Project at 203 Dundas St.

If you are affected by this resolution, and would like to provide your comments in person, please RSVP to by June 9th, 2017.

Should you wish to comment in writing you can also send an e-mail to:

We will gather all comments and forward them to the City of your behalf.
