Created in 1999 in response to the City of London’s Downtown Millennium Plan, MainStreet London is committed to the continued improvement of Downtown London via the recruitment of new commercial and residential tenants. In addition, MainStreet London seeks to improve the streetscape of Downtown London by encouraging quality urban design through our economic incentives.

Selection Process
A Board Selection Task Force oversees the selection process. This Task Force includes three non-board members and two board members, who:
• Identify and recommend candidates based on a pre-determined matrix of competencies, skills, and diversity needs.
• Review applications to address board succession priorities.
• Present a slate of prospective candidates to the membership for approval at the AGM. -
Ideal Board Member Criteria
Ideal candidates for the Board should:
• Be a member of the BIA, either as a commercial property owner or commercial tenant.
• Bring a positive attitude to enhance the reputation of London’s downtown.
• Offer unique skill sets, such as expertise in finance, public relations, marketing, real estate, legal, retail, or urban planning.
• Be recognized as a current or future leader in the district.
• Understand complex organizations and governance.
• Steward the organization through our 2021-2025 Strategic Plan and establish direction beyond.
• Demonstrate good stewardship and governance through industry or community involvement.
• Contribute reasoned opinions, work well in a team, and support Board decisions.
• Be able to commit the time and resources required to serve on the Board and task forces.
• Set aside personal agendas and work towards the betterment of London’s downtown.
• Previous board experience is an asset in terms of policy setting and establishing strategic direction.
• Support our strategic projects in member engagement and retention, unapologetic advocacy and placemaking. -
Next Call for Expressions of Interest
Downtown London Business Association is looking for two members to fill vacancies on our Board of Directors.
To complement the existing Board skill matrix, we are seeking candidates who bring expertise in the following key areas: emerging leadership, human resources, real estate, finance, education, and retail.
