Who We Are

Downtown London BIA is a community-driven organization dedicated to enhancing the heart of London, Ontario. We represent businesses and property owners within our boundaries, funded through a levy on commercial properties in the area.

Our main functions, as defined under Section 204 of the Municipal Act, 2001, are to:

1. Enhance and maintain the public spaces in our area, going beyond what is typically provided by the municipality.
2. Promote downtown London as a vibrant destination for business, shopping, dining, and culture.

Downtown London represents a thriving, progressive, and welcoming district in the heart of the city. The people that own businesses, visit, work, learn, and live in the district are the essence of its vibrancy and diversity.

Downtown London represents and supports its members, fostering a strong, thriving downtown in the economic and cultural heart of the city of London.

What is a Business Improvement Area (BIA)?

A Business Improvement Area (BIA) is an organization established under Section 204 of the Municipal Act, 2001 that represents businesses and property owners within a designated area. It works to enhance and promote the area through beautification, maintenance, and marketing initiatives, funded by a levy on commercial properties.

Benefits of Being Part of Downtown London BIA

As a member of Downtown London BIA, you gain access to a variety of benefits designed to support and enhance your business. Here’s what you can expect:

    Member Grants and Discounts:
    The BIA offers yearly a variety of grants to enhance businesses, helping them stand out and thrive in downtown London.

    Members can also access exclusive discounts from local service providers, including security systems, maintenance services, and marketing support.

    Business Directory Listing:
    Your business will be featured in the BIA's online directory, increasing visibility to potential customers.

    Social Media Promotion:
    The BIA actively promotes member businesses through its social media channels, helping to amplify your reach within the community.

    Monthly Event Calendars:
    The BIA produces a monthly event calendar featuring various events taking place downtown submitted by members. By featuring your events on our monthly event calendar, your business gains increased visibility and attracts a wider audience.

    Grand Openings and Anniversaries:
    The BIA promotes and celebrates when new businesses open or achieve important milestones with ribbon-cutting ceremonies, and anniversary celebrations.

    Downtown Dollar Gift Cards:
    To encourage local spending and support the downtown economy, Downtown London runs the Downtown Dollars Gift Card program. Gift cards are available for promotions, contests, campaigns, and for purchase. The Downtown Dollars program returns money directly to your tills, so if you participate in the program, you can get some of your levy dollars back.

    Marketing and Promotional Campaigns:
    Downtown London BIA runs several marketing and promotional campaigns per year promoting member businesses and attracting more feet to the street. For example, Downtown London offers interactive experiences for residents and tourists through its Downtown London Trails program. This initiative allows people to explore the downtown area while earning rewards and discovering local businesses.

  • Placemaking and Vibrancy

    Placemaking Initiatives:
    Members benefit from various initiatives aimed at beautifying and enlivening the downtown area, such as public art projects, seasonal decorations, flower planters and baskets, and street activations.

  • Advocacy and Support

    Representation:
    The BIA advocates on behalf of its members to municipal authorities, addressing issues related to zoning, transportation, and community safety to create a conducive business environment.

    Educational Resources:
    Members have access to workshops, seminars, and resources aimed at fostering business growth and development.

  • Maintenance and Cleaning

    Clean Team Services:
    The BIA's Clean Team works to maintain the cleanliness and aesthetic appeal of the downtown area, including graffiti removal and general upkeep, contributing to a pleasant environment for businesses and patrons alike.

  • Business Development Support

    Business Insider:
    Stay informed about downtown news, updates, and resources through our monthly Business Insider newsletter. Get the latest insights on new developments, funding opportunities, and member-exclusive initiatives.

    Member Networking:

    Do Business Here:
    In response to rising office vacancy, Downtown London launched the Do Business here page, which hosts a comprehensive suite of resources that showcase Downtown London as an attractive place for businesses. This includes data-driven research, property listings, and resources to support business expansion or relocation to downtown.
